Detailed Abstract: The rapid development of artificial intelligence is driving significant changes in the field of materials modeling, simulation, and design. In this report, we will explore the breakthroughs and progress in AI-assisted materials modeling, with a focus on the shift from multiscale methods to pre-trained models and the resulting software, data, and model ecosystem. In particular, we will investigate the possibility of a foundational model that covers the entire periodic table and, based on this, envision the future of the materials genome.
Linfeng Zhang is a researcher at the AI for Science Institute, Beijing, and Chief Scientist at DP Technology. He holds a Bachelor of Science from Peking University and a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Princeton University. Linfeng is dedicated to interdisciplinary research in the AI for Science domain, leading his team to develop models and algorithms such as Deep Potential/Uni-Mol/Uni-Fold, open-source software like DeePMD-kit, and the DeepModeling open-source community. In 2020, Linfeng's work as a core developer received the highest award in the field of high-performance computing, the ACM Gordon Bell Prize, and was also selected as one of the top ten scientific and technological achievements in China by academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
